Ian Pyman joined Donaldson Trumble Lawyers as a Consultant in July 2008. His earlier career started with Allens Arthur Robinson (then called Arthur Robinson & Co) and he was partner of that firm from 1983 to 2001.
From 2001 to 2008 Ian pursued other business interests. Those interests required him to maintain his skills and knowledge in the areas of law in which he has chosen to practice.
lan's principal areas of legal work are in corporate and commercial law, including corporate insolvency. He has considerable experience advising the boards and management teams of public and private companies and of government owned enterprises in relation to mergers and acquisitions, joint venture and shareholder arrangements, equity and fund raising issues and agreements, corporate governance, and a wide range of other commercial agreements.
His experience in corporate insolvency covers many of the significant work-outs, restructurings and administrations of the 1980's and 1990's, including International Harvester, VEDC, Pyramid Building Society, Tricontinental, the AV Jennings housing group, the Sportsgirl group and many others. He has acted for insolvency practitioners, syndicates of banks, other financial institutions and creditors of financially distressed companies in all non-litigious aspects of insolvency administrations. Ian also has considerable experience conducting securities reviews for financial institutions as a preliminary step to the enforcement of their securities.
Outside Donaldson Trumble Ian holds roles as a non-executive director of private and public companies, retains an involvement in a business consulting firm, is a member of the governing Council of Monash University and is Chair of the Council's Audit & Risk Management Committee.
