John came to practice in 1967. Before joining Donaldson Trumble, John was a partner of Gadens and its predecessor firms for over 27 years and Chairman of Gadens’ Board from 1994 to 2002.
John has wide experience in commercial, trust, intellectual property, trade practices and corporate law, with a particular focus on superannuation, financial services, franchising and dealerships.
In addition to acting for individuals and small businesses on a broad range of matters, John has acted for major corporations on matters including sales, mergers, acquisitions and joint ventures. John has also been a trustee of the Combined Fund (formerly Combined Schools Superannuation Fund) for 29 years and its Chairman for the last 15 years.
John is also a trustee of Legalsuper (appointed by the Law Institute of Victoria) the principal superannuation fund for the legal industry in Victoria and New South Wales. John acts for a number of independent schools where he is an advisor on legal matters of particular relevance to educational institutions, and is a member of the School Service Committee of the Association of Independent Schools of Victoria. John became a director on 1 March 2006.
